The Agency regularly attends the IMPACT  Job Fair, but is constantly looking for candidates for its Clinical Legal Education Program. An endowed fund to provide support to a law student with extraordinary merit (high scores or grades) and need. Preference is given to a student whose physical disabilities or handicaps require him or her to need reasonable assistance to attend law school, with specific preference to individuals who use a wheelchair.

The Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) is Justice’s recruitment program for entry-level attorneys, and is the only way Justice hires graduating law students. Judicial law clerks, full-time graduate law program (LLM) students, and law school graduates in qualifying full-time legal fellowships are also eligible.  The first opportunity for law students to apply for HP is the summer before their third year of law school.  This year, the on-line centralized electronic application opens July 25, 2011, and closes September 6, 2011.  Participating Justice offices and components will be listed at:  www.justice.gov/oarm/arm/hp/hpparticipatingcomp.htm.
The Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP) is Justice’s competitive recruitment program for compensated summer internships.  Law students who have completed at least one full semester of law school by the application deadline are eligible to apply; however, the majority of SLIPs are second-year law students who work at Justice the summer between their second and third years of law school.  But the SLIP is also open to recent graduates between graduation and the start of a judicial clerkship or full-time qualifying legal fellowship.  This year, the on-line centralized electronic application opens July 25, 2011, and closes September 6, 2011.  Thus, current 1Ls (i.e., rising 2Ls) who are interested in a paid internship for Summer 2012 should apply by September 6, 2011.  Participating Justice offices and components will be listed at:  www.justice.gov/oarm/arm/sp/spcomponents.htm

The big news for NALSWD this month was the election of a new slate of officers to our governing Executive Board and the addition of several Junior Officer/Committee Chair positions. In particular, we need additional team members to work this summer and fall on organizing the 2012 NALSWD Conference (which will likely be on the East Coast). This next month will largely be about transition at NALSWD as new officers get trained. The 2010-2011 Board will continue in their positions until May (so we’re not quite out the door yet).

We are also excited to announce that NALSWD has  YouTube channel! The channel name is “nalswdvideo” (http://www.youtube.com/user/nalswdvideo). Thanks to a generous donation from Lewis, Feinberg, Lee, Renaker & Jackson, P.C., all panels and speeches at the 2011 NALSWD Conference were recorded and are being uploaded to our channel. Currently, the keynote speech, opening remarks, and a panel on obtaining bar exam accommodations (relevant for all students, not just 3Ls!) are online. The rest of the panels will be posted shortly. Please subscribe to be notified as new material becomes available. We hope that students who were not able to attend the live event can still benefit from the vital information our many conference speakers provided!
